In the early 1970s, Pearce was captivated by the beauty and lightness of Georgian glass, and set about revitalizing the ancient glass-blowing trade for contemporary taste.

The book begins with an account of Pearce’s youth in rural Ireland, which had a profound effect on his creative spirit and his fundamental movement to create an innovative workshop in Vermont. Throughout the book his iconic designs are shown, individually photographed, as well as in inspirational paintings and vignettes. There are also profiles of the work of potters, glassmakers and artisans that he collects and seeks inspiration.
